Ocean Car Ride
Are they listening? Are we saying too much? Too little? How are Top-notch and Ninja Nuance absorbing the conversations and the efforts of the world around them?
Recently, we took a drive to the ocean. It was the first time the kids had been in a car in months and you would’ve thought they were packing for a week long hiking trip. We had every water toy, book and sketchbook known to man ultimately filling up the car. The drive was pleasant. The kids were entertaining themselves while Mr. CB and I discussed home renovations.
As we entered the little beachside town, I happened to look back at Top-notch to check on him. He didn’t look at me. Instead, he was holding up a sign he had made against the car window and peering past it at the cars passing by. It was a Black Lives Matter sign. He briefly glanced back at me and I told him I was proud of him.
“Do you think anyone can see my sign?'“ He asked
“Do you think anyone is listening to what I’m trying to say?”
“I think they are” I told him. We’re all listening.
